Last week, our 18th century framework knitting machine was transported to the workshop and reassembled on the top floor, its new permanent home.
We had support from Stuart Botterill of the Framework Knitters Museum in Ruddington for the build, whose knowledge of these machines was invaluable in getting it back together safely.
As far as we’re aware, this is the first time in over a century that a framework knitting machine has been active in the Bonsall Framework Knitters’ Workshop.
Adam has been having weekly lessons with Stuart to learn how to knit on the machine, and framework knitting is slowly coming back to life in the village.
