Inside the framework knitting shop 1 month into construction

Lunchtime Talk at Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum

We’re glad to be speaking at the Framework Knitters Museum on Thursday 30 April 2026, 1pm–2pm for a free lunchtime talk titled:

Dilapidation to Demonstration: A Framework Knitting Revival in Bonsall

In this talk we’ll share the story of the 1737 framework knitters’ workshop at Yew Tree Farm in Bonsall – from what we discovered when we first opened up the building, through the conservation choices and practical challenges of working with heritage fabric, to where the restoration is now. We’ll explain why traditional and breathable materials matter, how we’re bringing the workshop back into use, and what this project means for connecting people with the craft and history of framework knitting.

We’ll talk about:

🏛️

The history

The building and its place in Bonsall’s knitting past

🔍

The discovery

What we uncovered when we began the restoration

🏗️

The challenges

Working with a Grade II listed structure and why traditional materials matter

🚪

The future

Our plans to open the workshop for public visits and demonstrations

📍 Please note: This talk takes place at Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum, not at our Bonsall site.

We’re looking forward to connecting with others who care about preserving the story of framework knitting and keeping these buildings alive.

If you’re in the area or interested in framework knitting heritage, we’d love to see you there.
